Meet the Team - Erica Sammut, General Manager

The team at Harvest & Soul- Catering & Events is made up of a dedicated group of hospitality and events industry professionals – all with a genuine passion for creating beautiful fresh food and delivering exceptional events.

Our General Manager, Erica Sammut has been creating magical events and dining experiences for the last 30 years. From catering companies to hotels and venues, Erica’s experience in all things catering and events is vast. Having worked at some of the country’s most iconic venues including the MCG, Flemington Racecourse and Rod Laver Arena (to name just a few) in addition to the world’s largest catering businesses, Erica’s experience in and passion for catering and events is unparalleled.

Erica is an inspiring leader and self-professed foodie who oversees our busy operation across our amazing venues Australia wide. Seamless event delivery is Erica’s happy place and on this week’s blog, we found out more about our favourite catering industry legend and what she thinks makes an event truly memorable.

What are your favourite menu choices of the moment and why?

This year we are seeing a real trend towards healthy catering options for both business events and private functions. It’s really exciting to see event planners enjoying more casual and fun menu options such as grazing tables, themed buffets and interactive menus such as DIY smoothie bars. Our food philosophy at Harvest & Soul- Catering & Events is all about using the best local suppliers for the freshest seasonal ingredients. I love working closely with local farmers and artisans to incorporate their gorgeous produce into our menus.

My favourite menu choices for events at the moment are our gorgeous Buddha Bowl buffets – our guests really delight in creating their own healthy creations. Myself and the team are also loving grazing table menus – we take real pride in creating grazing tables that are overflowing with fresh produce and locally sourced meats and cheeses that really look like works of art.

Creating an amazing food experience for our guests is one of the greatest parts of my job!

What do you think makes an event really memorable?

There are so many components to creating a really special occasion. Great food is imperative and I love working closely with our clients to tailor a menu that suits their personal style. Quality service is so important – for me and for all of our guests. Choosing suppliers that are on the same page as you and that will go above and beyond for each and every one of your guests is the key to a memorable event. I feel very fortunate to work with a team of foodies and event professionals that all really love what they do – I think that’s what make the difference.

Chardonnay or Shiraz?

While Chardonnay has made a real comeback recently, I personally enjoy a Shiraz, particularly in the cooler months and especially when paired with a perfectly cooked steak or Charcuterie.
